SYNOPSIS: These four films are written, edited, produced, and directed by Robert Panico while he was studying
filmmaking at the New York Film Academy.
Maritus is a mise-en-scene project in which he had to make a film in
3 shots or less.
Tender Touch is a continuity project in which Robert had to direct a film in multiple shots
while providing a sense of coniuous movement.
The Watcher is a music/rhythm project where students had to direct
either a music video or a narrative based on a piece of music.
Programmed Passion is Robert's film final that
had no parameters except a ten minute time limit and an exclusion of dialogue.
PRODUCTION NOTES: The first film was shot in two days, first at the cafe, then on the roof.
Tender Touch and
The Watcher were filmed in one day on seperate weeks. Robert's thrid film was originally a film of an epic
sword fight between a vampire and a vampire hunter set to the second movement of Elliot Goldenthal's "Fire Water Paper".
After spending a lot of time and effort trying to film, the weather and locations and actors failed to work on time
so the production was scrapped and Robert had to write an entierly new script for the folowing day. He wrote
The Watcher
while listening to a piece from James Newton Howard's
The Fugitive and it was rated the best narrative in class.
Programmed Passion was filmed in 3 days mostly in the Alphabet City section of Manhattan. The two lead actors
were discovered by Robert on accident. Tracy was responding to a fellow director's email looking for a male lead and she
thought she'd give a try for a potential female role; Jessica, Robert's Director of Photography, used Johnny in
her film final and Robert asked him to star in his work.
